Who Are We?

We are believers from a wide range of nationalities and denominational affiliations. We meet every Sunday in the town of Heiloo, near Alkmaar. Together, we seek to live as disciples of Jesus Christ by studying and obeying God’s Word, as it is written in the Bible. We are an Anglican, evangelical and family friendly church. Our Sunday services consist of worship music, teachings from the Bible and prayer. We have Sunday school activities for children 0-10 years old during the service. We have a moment for tea and coffee afterwards. We partake in Holy Communion together once a month. We also run Bible study groups throughout the week.

Christ Church Heiloo is...

Christian We are a Bible believing church who accepts the fundamentals of the Christian faith as confessed in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds. We seek to follow Jesus Christ, together as a community and in our families week by week.

International We are an international, English-speaking church with members living throughout North-Holland. We rejoice in the variety of nationalities and church backgrounds we represent.

Anglican The Anglican Church is a global, vibrant and Christ-centered expression of the Christian church with a rich history that still shapes our beliefs, lives and worship today. We hold much in common with other orthodox, reformed, and evangelical Christian traditions and are committed to humbly following Christ and the mission of his Church.

A Local Church While we value our global and historical tradition, we also see ourselves as Christ followers first and therefore part of the larger kingdom community in the city of Heiloo in the Province of North Holland. We are actively building partnerships with other local churches and ministries that proclaim Jesus as Saviour and Lord. We are committed to a local expression of the unity of the body of Christ across socio-economic, racial and denominational lines.

We Are Part of Something Bigger

While the roots of the Church in England go back to the time when England was the Roman province of Britain, Anglicanism is a particular Christian tradition born out of the Protestant Reformation in England (16th century). As Anglicans, we value our place in a global communion of churches, our rich history of faith and practice, and a deep commitment to the authority of Scripture and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The word Anglican actually means “of England.” As British Christians, compelled by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, took their faith around the world, churches were established on every continent and in many nations. British pastoral leaders encouraged autonomy and collegiality with these daughter churches, and over time, separate “provinces” of the Anglican Church were established around the world.

Today, this communion of churches now consists of 38 self-governing provinces around the world, in 164 countries, with tens of millions of members. In many places, particularly throughout the Global South, the churches of the Anglican Communion are known for their vibrant faith in God and transformational presence within their communities. Christ Church, Heiloo is a member of the Anglican Convocation Europe (https://aceanglicans.org/).

Meet Our Pastor and his Wife

Johann's missionary roots trace back to his Great-Grandfather - an Anglican missionary in Southern Africa. The Lord revealed His love and purpose to Johann in 1980 through the witness of an unrelated missionary. Since then, his personal salvation impressed upon him the need to share with others the wonderful gift given to him, especially those lost in their own misfortunes.

Johann and Louise have served in various pastoral ministries in Namibia and in the USA since 1980, as well as in cross-cultural mission work. They worked as part-time missionaries in India for four years, spent three years helping to develop the St. Frumentius Seminary in Gambella, Ethiopia, then they worked in Southern Africa, serving in seven southern African countries, while continuing to work with the Diocese of Egypt, North Africa through engaging in a disciple making movement in order to grow the body of Christ. They are now serving in Heiloo, the Netherlands.

Johann has always loved to read and write, both prose and poetry, you can find more information about the books he's written through this (link).
Louise is a practical person who loves to be physically active in hands-on activities. Some of her hobbies include reading, knitting, crocheting, hiking, and camping.
